A colourful opening ceremony
The Karo Room of Hotel Soechi was packed with more than 400 people on Sunday evening, 2 December, to witness the opening of the 13th Asian Xiangqi Individual Championships. The program started with the guards of honour ushering in Mr Timothy Fok, President of the Asian Xiangqi Federation, and other key officers. Several cultural dances and choral singing won big rounds of applause from the guests. A number of VIPs, including Bapak Haji Muchtar Aritonang, Ketua Koni Bidang Organisasi,made their speeches. The hosting party also made a double effort to conduct the traditional "commissioning of the general", by having it done simultaneously on two big chessboards standing on each side of the stage.
