The surprise from this round was the margin by which Hong Kong lost to Vietnam, they couldn't even draw a single game. In the battle between Cambodia and Macau, the former had subtly lined up the players to their advantage. However, Lai Chhay missed an fatal attacking chance in his game against U Kam Im that would have reversed the outcome. Macau smiled away with a 2:1 victory. China claimed two boards quickly in their match against the weaker opponent Japan. However, Wang Bin at the first board met the tough challenge from Shoshi Kazuharu, and conceded a draw after a lengthy play.
